From the archives of The St. Louis Herb Society

In October, the Society’s first “Fall Harvest Sale” was set up in the Herb Garden at what was then called Shaw’s Garden, now the Missouri Botanical Garden. It sold out in two hours. Members worked individually and in workshops throughout the summer to harvest herbs to make lavender sticks, spice wreaths, pomanders, chutneys, breads, jellies, vinegars, seasonings bags and potpourri. Items also included curry powder and seasoning salt, each calling for eleven ingredients from the Society’s own recipes.
