Arugula (Erica sativa, Family: Brassicaceae also Cruciferae) has a unique, unmistakable flavor which reminds us of other savory and piquant herbs, as well as those with similar, but less peppery flavors. Here are some to look for and try, if you aren’t familiar with them: mizuna, mitsuba, red and green mustards, the cresses (garden, curly, rock, land, pepper, and the more familiar watercress), sorrel, nettle, nasturtium (flower and foliage ), radish (greens as well as root). Explore the exciting flavor range of nature’s herbal bounty! Nearly all of these are effortless to grow and make wonderful additions to a mixed greens salad!
